In a lot of cases to question their source of personal security (blowing up children) is taken personally as an attack on themselves. The “I don’t care I just want to be left alone” mentality and the inability to think big picture is really common in these functionally autistic socially awkward folk.

I’m glad that I went into conservation. I can’t imagine doing work that makes the world worse. I wouldn’t be able to get up in the morning. I need to know that I’m actually helping someone

I got my degree in aerospace engineering and cannot tell you how true and disappointing this is. I have no respect for adults who can’t take responsibility for their actions

Dude exactly. So many of the engineering sweats I went into undergrad with have the emotional and rhetorical intelligence of a toddler. I think that’s why they’re so clueless about the harms of using ai to do everything for you

Have you looked on conservation job board? That’s where I found my job. Permanent jobs are harder to find but there’s a decent number of temporary ones. I’m working as a permanent contractor for the USGS through the pacific states marine fisheries commission.

Idk how dumb this sounds or not but do those sorts of openings ever call for someone with either a mechanical or civil engineering background? I really want to do something that’s positively impactful with the degrees I have

I’m not sure. That’s not the sort of thing I’d be looking for. It’s definitely worth looking into. I’ve seen like fish hatchery jobs that would want mechanical expertise.
