“How can you be a good and happy person without the threat of eternal damnation?”
How do atheists stay positive in life?? Like how do you have any hope when you believe that this world is all there is

I hate the Catholic Church and correctly perceive it from an atheist perspective

I’m very familiar with the Catholic Church and its people and dislike Christianity and most religion in general

The catholic church has a long history of defending and hiding sexual abuse. Does that not bother you

What do you mean correctly perceive it fm an atheist perspective?? Isn’t that exactly what the quote is pointing out? That ppl don’t actually understand the Catholic faith but think they do?

The point is that the atheist perspective is correct. Your “no true Scotsman” quote is just dumb

#4, you’re talking about the ppl in the Catholic church and not the church itself. That’s one point ppl don’t understand.

That statement is way truer for the Mormon Church than the Catholic Church

#3, I think you just proved the quote right. If you dove deep into Catholicism and actually took plenty of time to understand, then you could accurately judge. But you have not done so clearly

The church is run by the people in it. It’s disingenuous intellectually to assert that the decades of people who’ve entered and ran the church are somehow removed from what the church as an institution does.

Yeah the church is largely its people. You could argue that Christianity or Catholicism itself is not its people but the church is

That’s where you’re wrong #4. The church is not run by its ppl. The Catholic Church has always believed that Jesus is the head of the Catholic Church but this is too complicated to explain in a comment section like this. You have proved the point that I’ve made that you do not actually understand our beliefs and hate us without knowing

I was raised catholic. I went to an all-boys Catholic boarding school up state. I, quite literally, have multiple parts of the bible committed to memory. And yet I do not go to church anymore. I do not identify as Catholic despite living my life as one for so long. I understand the book, and yet in my understanding I chose to reject is as false. That’s all there is to it.

Considering I was raised Christian I actually have thoroughly engaged with the church and its teachings, all of which fail to hold up to scrutiny or scientific evidence

No, the institution is run by the people, the ideology from what they actually do can be separate. Are you implying that not a single person contributes to the church?

I’m Catholic and lemme just say: If you don’t acknowledge the mountains of horrible shit the Catholic Church has done, you’re blinding yourself to the truth.
