In life saving situations doctors are required to perform operations regardless of patient’s ability to pay. One of the few cases where the system doesn’t entirely screw people over

Unfortunately, whoever gets this theoretical emergency organ transplant will still get billed afterwards and be in medical debt potentially in the tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars

The doctors no, insurance companies yeah. Doctors don’t get paid anything in those cases, but the insurance gets what it can from the patient. There’s rules in place that limit people to a certain period of continuous payments that if maintained absolve the remaining debt. Not the best system obviously. But, if you’re going to contribute to the system, donating organs is one of the few ways that isn’t entirely bad

Yes it is. Our medical system is fucked. Side note, a lot of those European countries with free healthcare also make it so you are an organ donor by default and opt out. This greatly increases the rate of organ donation
