It’s literally what happens after decades of artificial fire suppression. While global warming exists and is a secondary cause, it is not the primary reason for the increased frequency and intensity of forest fires; rather it is the prevention of the natural forest fire cycle which results in an overabundance of natural fuel for fires, increasing intensity when fires start and making fires more frequent too. This would be a non-issue if urban developments were built away from fire prone areas
