See the great thing about Germany is how they teach the history of the Nazis to kids. They tell them EVERYTHING. They say “this isn’t your fault, you weren’t there, BUT it is your responsibility to make sure this doesn’t happen again”.

Meanwhile over here, a quarter of the country wants to celebrate it, another quarter wants to pretend it never happened, and had the country wants to make everyone feel guilty as if they were there and could’ve made a difference.

Because it's an incredibly stupid and ignorant statement. Teaching future generations about atrocities so that history doesn't repeat itself in no way hinders national pride. I'm a proud American even though I recognize the terrible atrocities committed by our country.

I spent my 15 days in Berlin going up and down that city and there’s a LOT to appreciate. The spot where Hitler’s bunker was is a parking lot now. They did absolutely everything right post-war
