Have fun with your 80k school debt, bud! ☺️

No. I CHOOSE to focus on one thing at a time because most want to run down a list a bullshit and never focus on anything at all. I could give you legitimate reasons and you’ll still move the goalposts continuously over nonsense you listen to or read from social media.

Legitimate reason for taxing personal landscaping equipment

upvote 6 downvote
🃏
Anonymous replying to -> #2 3w

If you knew anything about Virginia, you’d know that counties and cities don’t have broad taxing authority the way some states do. Localities are constitutionally limited in how they can raise revenue. They rely heavily on personal property taxes at the local level.

upvote 3 downvote
🃏
Anonymous replying to -> #2 3w

So it’s a taxable capital and spreads tax burden beyond just having home owners pay for it all. Thats your LEGITIMATE reason

It’s also not targeted at “personal landscaping equipment” btw. It targets contractors, farmers, manufacturing shops, medical practices, and logistics companies. They’re seen as capital assets that are used to generate revenue and not personal household items. It helps fund their schools, police and fire services, and their roads and infrastructures.

You wanted the reason, I gave you the reason. This isn’t an argument. You got a problem with, go take it up with the Virginia House of Representatives. You got a better way to tax their state so they can fund their basic services and infrastructure, you go right ahead and march that idea up to their state house.

YES. It’s the same thing. It’s called a movable asset. Both of you have misunderstandings what “personal property” means because you neither of you are using the states definition. False burden IS a value based judgement. You’re trying to argue that’s it’s not “fair” for small businesses from your own set of normative preferences instead of using anything empirical. The slope isn’t slippery if it’s bounded by the fucking bill itself. THATS HOW LAWS WORK

upvote 1 downvote

A logical fallacy still isn’t a value based judgement. False burden is a claim where someone improperly shifts the responsibility to others. “What other ways can localities tax their constituents to keep their cities running”

We? No, babe. You didn’t pay for my schooling. I earned that shit with my grades and my hard work. It doesn’t bother me because I realize I can afford $40,000. Immigrants, like most other poor working class, live paycheck to paycheck and will NEVER go to school. Their children MIGHT, but the odds are extremely low. You won the life lottery by having the ability to attend a 4 year university and you’re going to bitch about $80,000 when you could be some poor ass dude from Mexico cleaning floors?
