I agonized over the VA referendum for a long time, but in hindsight the play was pretty obvious: guilt-trip VA into not gerrymandering for Ds and pressure red states into gerrymandering for Rs. It’s why Trump, Mike Johnson, etc. all wanted it to fail

A particularly egregious case is that “Scott Presler” activist guy. He campaigned FOR GOP gerrymandering in Indiana and AGAINST Dem gerrymandering in Virginia. Should’ve been against both if he was consisteny
