my bad, I read “think certain terms are more far left than they are” as thinking that, say, centrist, applies to people who are more left than actual centrists, which as I see it would result in calling people terms less left than they are.

In the two party system the democratic party is one of the only spaces where left/progressive ideologies can be presented to the general public, and dems will talk till the cows come home about wanting a “big tent” so please explain why this particular ideological editorialization from a group that allegedly works to amplify the voices of the people?

like if you view permitting free policy debate as ‘catering to socialists’ you have a deeply warped view of the purpose and governance of political parties. the active suppression of viewpoints which just conveniently happen to contradict corporate backing is antithetical to democracy.

The point of political parties is to win. The democrats do that by having a large tent which caters to many different viewpoints, but that doesn’t mean they have to include everyone, they shouldn’t include racism, facism, or illiberal socialism/marxism because they are antithetical to the ideals of the party. It’s not just free policy debate when there are socialists in the party who are winning elections.

Democrat is a political party which broadly supports liberal and progressive values. (Representative)Democracy is a system of government where people can vote for representatives to govern the country.
