Cringe performative bullshit. Privileged american sitting on their couch telling others that one of the most authoritarian countries on the planet is actually nice and cool and good actually. You could perhaps make an argument that North Korea were the better option 70 years ago, when the south was more authoritarian and massacre-prone. But since then the south has democratized and the north has collapsed inwards into an authoritarian hellhole. The north is not the good side now.

What about the fact that foreign media is explicitly banned with severe consequences and all media in the nation is state owned? If North Korea is so free and so great why do they shoot people for trying to leave? How did they get so many numerous crimes against humanity convictions?

They literally have to otherwise they’d be obliterated to smithereens or completely took over by the us if they didn’t have anything to deter western intervention? How do they control the economy that’s so repressive? By having a communist governance structure? Foreign media is not fully banned, just pro western propaganda and for good reason seeing as how it has manufactured consent for the murder of millions. They don’t shoot ppl for trying to leave.

I think he was acting foolishly and disrespectfully and that his declining medical condition wasn’t intentional but likely from a contracted disease. Why did his autopsy report and own fucking parents report his corpse being severely tortured with a court finding North Korea liable with the nation not formally contesting the charges even? His teeth had been re arranged his limbs systematically defigured. Why was he in a comma and died of a neurological injury. It was not a disease or even a recorded medical condition prior to him going nor could a neurological injury explain why his limbs and teeth looked that way.

I never said people couldn’t go into North Korea. Tourism is an important part of their fragile economy and they concentrate infrastructure projects in Pyongyang to project modernity. They don’t let the tourists go to the rural places, which isn’t as glitzy. I said North Koreans generally can’t go to china or Russia freely, not that no one can ever enter North Korea.

Like you’re rejecting a black and white narrative lol. You learned the history of North Korea and decided that means they’re perfect good guys with only good intentions instead of realizing that nuance is a thing and the world rarely has actual angels and demons. Guess what! Governments of a country with a history of outside repression can still be shitty and repressive. A bad history doesn’t make them good perfect little angels.

Hell, fun fact propaganda doesn’t have to be made up information in all cases. It sometimes is, but it can also be an amplification of something true for propagandistic purposes.

Every authoritarian government and its actions have been justified to the populace using an existential threat. They always say “this is bad but it’s worth it.” What do you think Israel uses to justify its genocide? Or pol pot? Or the Turkish genocide of Armenians? Or the repressive Eritrean government? There’s alway an internal or outside threat, real or imaginary, and these actions will result in a better outcome in the end.
