honestly a lot of it probably came down to the cognitive dissonance of having like, neighbors and coworkers who loudly support Trump. like yeah Mrs Johnson says illegals should be shot but she brought cookies to my daughter’s soccer game! people will ignore a LOT to keep the peace in their own communities
