Texas is currently suing MyChart because conservative parents want unfettered access to all their children’s private medical records, but go on and keep telling me about authoritarianism
Liberals call republicans authoritarian as if they didn’t force everyone to wear masks that didn’t work bc of their fake “virus”

My state won’t even let me get the medical records of a direct ancestor that died in an asylum 74 years ago bc we have to wait 75 years from death for it to become public record lmao

I’m confused, if the kid is a minor aren’t the parents allowed to see that info?

Why are they suing Epic and not the provider 💀

The US has something called the medical age of consent, which is different than when you legally become an adult. It allows kids to limit what their parents can access even if their parents are still their legal guardians and share insurance. This is helpful in many cases where the kids might be living under an abusive household. If a parent is an anti vaxxer for example, with the MAOC, it’s still possible for a kid to get a vaccine without that parent finding out. Or access abuse help. Etc

Idk why tf they’re suing the company, that might just be conservatives being stupid. The point however is to get parents access to those records so that way abusive parents can abuse their children

Yeah at first it sounds weird to have a different age of consent for medical reasons, but when you read more into it then it makes way more sense why it’s a thing. Kids being able to access vaccines, abuse help, hrt, or other stuff is really important if they live under abusive parents

They’re suing the company because once the child hits that age, the company blocks the parents access. The child is given their own account instead of being under the parents’, and unless the parent makes that account before the child by stealing their identity (like mine did 🫠) then they no longer have access to their records without consent from the child
