it’s definitely the job of the international olympic committee to be the world morality police

Most Russian civilians aren’t ultra nationalists, the latter though….

Why punish the athletes for something their government does?

Russia has a serious doping problem it’s not just based on geopolitics

When you’re performing in the Olympics you are representing your country, you bear their flag and you grant your country a lot of publicity based on your performance. Also in the case of Israel military service is mandatory so we don’t know what they did.

The UN can’t kick nations out for violating international law but it’s def the IOC’s responsibility 🫩

If you wanna ban Israel I think you should ban America too bc America funds and arms Israel and defends them at every turn, the people that worked with the GHF to shoot Palestinians at aid sites were American mercenaries Either ban America too or you’re a hypocrite Same with UAE, same with Saudi Arabia, same with all these other countries that commit genocide

While I do agree especially with how we’ve been talking about Greenland and what we’ve been doing, if America was banned every time we funded a genocide we’d never be able to compete. Also I don’t get why your argument turned from they shouldn’t be banned to we need more bans.

That was years ago, currently it’s mostly the geopolitics. You can’t put heavy sanctions on someone and then invite them for a friendly game of curling

I don’t disagree with you hell in my opinion countries should boycott the 2028 Olympics since were hosting it.

Bc if you want to enforce it on Israel for genocide you’ve got to enforce it on all other countries committing genocide Otherwise you’re a hypocrite and seemingly anti-Semitic, it’s fuck Israel, but they’re not the only country committing genocide and it’s anti-Semitic to frame it that way

I don’t think it’s anti semetic, and I’m aware they aren’t the only one that’s why Russia is banned too, I would agree that the us should receive some blow back.

Why?…

Athletes don’t control the actions of their country’s government and military and shouldn’t be prevented from competing in a sport that has nothing to do with either government policy or military actions

I absolutely think they should. Over and over again they’ve violated the integrity of the games by making their athletes take steroids. Why have the events at all if we tolerate cheating from certain teams

then they should be drug tested. I don’t believe in collective punishment, if you’re a clean athlete you should be able to compete

why should they be?

As I told you before, they aren’t just a group of athletes that just happen to be from the same country, they’re literally representing their country! A win for them is a win for their country, anything they do or say will reflect on their nation. The Olympics aren’t just some billion dollar highschool track meet it’s a multinational PR stunt.

Because they bear the flag of a country currently trying to wipe another country off the map.

Then perhaps it shouldn’t be based on country association at all if it’s such an issue

Do you know why the Olympic rings are those colors? It’s so that the Olympic colors have a color that’s found in every flag in every country on earth. It has been and always will be about country association.

I mean yeah I know what the Olympics stand for, I just think geopolitical situations shouldn’t prevent athletes from competing

It sucks but that’s just how it is. As sad as it is the Olympics as an organization don’t see the athletes much as people, god knows there’s been a lot of controversy around that, so to them they represent the country.

It doesn’t fully punish them unless it’s a large team sport like hockey let’s say. They do have the option to compete under the “not affiliated” group. I believe there are a few Russians participating just not representing Russia.
