It shows that the job market is still stable (low-hire, low-fire), but I’m not sure how long it will be before layoffs due to inflation and the war. An important thing to note is that young people with no work history are usually ineligible for unemployment insurance, so they don’t file a claim (and don’t show up in these numbers)
Most people are focusing on the initial jobless claims, but the continuing jobless claims are decreasing too, despite hiring being slow (outside of healthcare and education). That’s potentially because you can’t claim UI if you’ve been unemployed for longer than 6 months (depending on the state). The number of people maxing out their UI has increased, so people are remaining unemployed for longer
