The sector most threatened by ai is administrative govt jobs (ex. DMV) hell you could probably automate that with simple code.

For some reason the focus seems to always be on replacing workers as if that is some noble goal to work towards

I don’t know if it’s actually a goal (for most people), rather I think it’s something that executives, CEOs and the board, would be into. AI is envisioned to be like automation to be cheaper and fill gaps. Less turnover, need for raises, employee satisfaction, benefits, etc. it solves financial problems but creates a problem that most of the lower and middle class aren’t supportive

Replacing public sector employees frees up a vast labor pool that can then go into productive employment.

It shouldn’t be about replacing an entire sector, or job field. AI should be a tool that assists with efficiency and in some cases, yes, takes over responsibilities. But it should not completely eliminate entire jobs - at least in most cases. More often than not doing so is solely to benefit the business (profits) and not the consumer/general public.
