My hot take (or not so hot take idk) is that colleges shouldn’t require students to take classes that aren’t relevant to their major. That is the job of K-12 education. (And yes ik there are some colleges that don’t require these classes)
I think that college should be teaching that stuff but that college should be low cost or free. There are some history topics which are important but which high schoolers will have a harder time understanding.

It depends on what you think the purpose of college should be. Are they just to prepare people for the workforce, or is there a higher aspiration of a more rounded education to help in all aspects of being members of society

But I do understand this if it’s coming from the perspective of if these historical and ethical topics are truly important for everyone to know, they should be taught in high school so that anyone who doesn’t attend college still gets educated on those subjects
