Prison laborers earn as little as 12¢/hour doing janitorial work, up to $1.15/hr for manufacturing military body armor. On the other hand, society pays their room & board, education, and healthcare. What’s a fair minimum wage for prisoners?

Keep in mind that if they own monetary restitution to their victims, their prison salary is what pays that off

It should depend on the prison. If it’s federal, prisoners should make Federal Minimum Wage. If it’s county or state, they should make the amount of that region’s minimum wage.

Prison should be more rehabilitation-focused. Give small-time offenders a chance to turn their life around, get a GED or college-applicable credits, and mental health/drug rehabilitation. For-profit private prisons and even government prisons are too punishment-heavy and make society worse all around
