The US was created to escape religious persecution, and the constitution never made any mention of God or religion. We have multiple articles and amendments specifically against theism in government. And regardless of their original intent, that was 250 years ago and culture changes. Should we keep slavery just because the founding fathers believed in that? Obviously not. Society progresses over time

Only a small percentage of colonists were Deist, most were Protestant, with slightly smaller percentages of Quakers, Catholics, Evangelicals, ect
