Ok while this is true, it’s also fucking fruit. It is food that keeps us alive. And any development that makes it more nutrient dense, take less water/fertilizer/space/etc to grow should be freely used and adopted by other commercial farms. Too bad most of these developments tend to be the opposite and focus on making the fruit sweeter or look better and have less nutritional benefit so they sell better but whatever
Did you read the article or are you just making baseless assumptions? The article specifically mentions how quickly blueberry consumption in China has grown due to people being able to easily replicate the fruits and how consumers have been able to grow them yourselves. Stop talking nonsense.
I agree. However, what incentive does a business have for giving away their IP and secrets to the world under our current laws? All they’d do is bankrupt their company and help a competitor compete. If there was a global food authority, then in a perfect world yes, everyone would be able to share in the benefits of science and development. Sadly that’s not the world we live in.
How does banning theft = banning competition? If I decide to steal your wallet, is that competition? I’d argue if you can’t be successful without stealing from your competitors (as affirmed by Chinese courts), you shouldn’t be in business. Why are you advocating for thieves more than their own home country’s legal system? The court made them destroy the stolen crops and pay a fine. This isn’t a complex thing.
