I don’t think people who beat their spouses and/or kids should have access to buying firearms. So red flag laws make sense to me.

In District of Columbia v. Heller (2008), Justice Antonin Scalia established that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to bear arms, but this right is not unlimited. Scalia noted that "presumptively lawful" regulations include bans on possession by felons and the mentally ill, restrictions on firearms in sensitive places (schools/government buildings), and conditions on commercial sales

Gotcha. Child abuse isn’t a big deal for you until the government threatens to take your guns.

I think that it's ok to take away guns for those reasons, through individualized due process, but not with "red flag laws" (ERPOs) because those do not have the same burden of proof as being convicted of child abuse or domestic violence
