America first would be smashing monopolies, establishing a single payer healthcare system, taxing billionaires into non existence, etc. but you’re not ready for that conversation

There’s a reason every country with low poverty has billionaires. The same systems that have been shown to decrease poverty and raise living standards for the average person most effectively also have the side effect of creating billionaires. I’ll take that trade off every time.

Then we tax the billionaires into extinction. They don’t need to exist- they are a byproduct of capitalistic greed

How would that work without destroying the preconditions for average everyday Americans to prosper? Has any society successfully done it?

Okay good. America also taxed the 1% with a tax rate in the 90%s and it brought us out of the Great Depression (along with the war) and allowed the New Deal program and things like social security. We can do it again.

On paper, that was the top marginal tax rate, but it had no noticeable effect on federal revenue

By what metrics are Americans no longer prospering? We have the highest median income of any major country in history

Taxes on businesses are primarily paid by workers and consumers. Its not a very progressive way to tax.

And yet the vast majority of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, have piles of debt, the rising generation will on average never be able to afford a home, many Americans work 2 or more jobs to make ends meet and even then they barely do. So no Americans are not flourishing despite the economy being good. The economy, the stock market, and GDP are not valid trackers of how the average person is doing. Go talk to your community. Americans are suffering and it has grown exponentially

Paycheck to paycheck is a stat that says very little about living standards. 20% of Americans making more than $150,000/yr live paycheck to paycheck because they often overspend on luxury houses and cars.

The economy is not an indicator, it’s just a word that describes how we produce, consume, and exchange goods.

GDP definitely deserves some criticism, but I ask because usually the alternative metrics people suggest are still like 0.9 correlated with GDP.
