“There are only 51 Rice’s Whales left in the Gulf!!!” Brother they werent even recognized as a unique species until 2021, because of genetic testing. Theyre basically the same of a Bryde’s whale (90k pop), these are just inbred and dont leave the Gulf.

Op here, what im saying is that cetologists didnt notice the difference until genetic testing came along, therefore they are not functionally that different. Other than one is great eco-propaganda fuel. A panic is raised over 51, but we have no idea the normal level because they simply arent that distinct

I mean either way, even if they are just inbred Bryde’s whales, it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to avoid destroying their environment
