I have a feeling that the Iran War is gonna be the event that historians are gonna point to as the definite beginning of the end for the U.S. ngl

Easily. We are already in too deep. Even if the conflict stopped tomorrow, the long term damage is so bad that we will be recovering for decades. America got itself stuck in a chinese finger trap and is flailing desperately trying to get out

Maybe. Frankly, I find it more compelling to think that the last 10 years is really just exposed the rot that was already there. That when the historians come in with any kind of hindsight, it’ll be pretty obvious it was 2001 when the US went fascist. The statistical evidence just isn’t there. There’s nothing that Trump has done that Obama and Biden didn’t do more of. Libs are literally just upset that he’s being blunt about it instead of doing the fascism with decorum.

Tho I’d make the argument it actually starts with Biden’s unwillingness to condemn Israel and force the genocide to end. Trump simply took that undying loyalty and somehow turned it up to 11

Tbf, if we wanted to go all the way back I’d say it started with Reagan winning the presidency. Kinda like how Rome started showing cracks in its foundations long before 476 as well

I can see that with G.W. Bush, but it’s awfully simplistic to call anything that isn’t as far left as you wish it was “fascist” and this is coming from someone who considers themselves to be pretty left-wing. That said, Biden and Obama were far from perfect. But I wouldn’t call them “fascists” just because you didn’t like them. Insufferably neoliberal, sure, but not fascist. Doesn’t mean I don’t think they could have done more to not ultimately enable that sort of thing

I mean, if we really want to go far back, I’d argue it started with failing to finish reconstruction and that Andrew Johnson is the most destructive president in US history

Touché. We probably wouldn’t be in this mess at all if the south was actually properly punished for slavery/the civil war
