With the govt shutdown… who will be running the deportation facilities (concentration camps)? Will these people be fed? How does that work?

There won’t be a shutdown, I think dems reached a deal

The detention facilities are usually run by contractors like GEO Group or CoreCivic. They will be paid according to their existing contract. But ICE wouldn’t really have the money to expand those contracts unless they’re allocated more funding or they move stuff around

Trump specifically made it so he will still be funding those but those people are hardly fed as it is

I mean ice is deemed essential so they operate regardless of the government being open. Also all prisoners still need to be cared for during a shutdown according to human rights laws but DHS doesn’t care about those laws during an operational government so I doubt a shutdown would change much on that front

Wait does this mean obama had concentration camps too? I mean 60 people did die in deportation facilities under his administration, not to mention the amount that disappeared

Yeah makes sense. Tbh it’s just something I never rlly thought about and it just popped into my head but yeah def a more obvious answer my knowledge of how govt shutdowns work is just limited😭

Yes but to a much lesser extent. While conditions were shitty, there was much more accountability and better conditions than currently. Our prisons being for profit has always been a bad thing and Nazi germany was based off of the USA’s existing laws at the time so like, yeah of course they are concentration camps

More people have died under Trump in this last year than during all of obama’s presidency so that should be a big flag of “oh wow this is very rapidly becoming even worse”

Thats just not true, while it is a higher number for an individual year, 32 people is not more than all of Obama’s. Is he on pace for higher deaths? Yes. Is it to the level that would be considered Nazi-esque? Absolutely not.

The people who actually experienced concentration camps would probably laugh at anyone who tried to compare this to concentration camps

Also if you think no one cared about this under Obama, you’d be wrong

So it’s way more than 32. It’s 53 that directly died within their custody but that’s not including the people that they shot in the streets or who died shortly after their release due to abuse

This is also not including the prisons abroad that we send them to like CECOT (a place with proven severe abuse) where they have never released the death toll and we don’t even entirely know where people were sent.

I also don’t believe any number we’ve seen is accurate. I saw a video of a woman (white woman if it matters to anyone) whose husband was detained and a judge granted a court order allowing them to leave the USA on a commercial flight to brazil. The woman was in contact w her husband until one night his trace was erased. They wouldnt tell her where he went until one of his friends told her he was taken in the middle of the night down to louisiana. THEY WENT AGAINST A COURT ORDER SIGNED BY A JUDGE

And this woman has no clue where her husband is… while he probably isn’t dead this was just to show that they are completely lying about what’s going on w these people even tho we already knew that so I def believe the death toll is higher. Ugh it’s so frustrating

I’m confused, what did they do that contradicted the court order?

But yeah they always move them to Louisiana or Texas. The fifth circuit is more conservative if anything gets appealed

The judge signed a court order that this man and his wife would be able to leave the country willingly on a commercial flight. This woman has had a lawyer the whole time and honestly there’s sooooo many details so if ur curious the woman is Hannah Silviera on Tik tok
