I mean ice is deemed essential so they operate regardless of the government being open. Also all prisoners still need to be cared for during a shutdown according to human rights laws but DHS doesn’t care about those laws during an operational government so I doubt a shutdown would change much on that front
Yes but to a much lesser extent. While conditions were shitty, there was much more accountability and better conditions than currently. Our prisons being for profit has always been a bad thing and Nazi germany was based off of the USA’s existing laws at the time so like, yeah of course they are concentration camps
I also don’t believe any number we’ve seen is accurate. I saw a video of a woman (white woman if it matters to anyone) whose husband was detained and a judge granted a court order allowing them to leave the USA on a commercial flight to brazil. The woman was in contact w her husband until one night his trace was erased. They wouldnt tell her where he went until one of his friends told her he was taken in the middle of the night down to louisiana. THEY WENT AGAINST A COURT ORDER SIGNED BY A JUDGE
