Yeah but like, you guys actually do cheat and you’re also pedophiles. Like, republicans just ignore state supreme courts repeatedly. With no consequences. You mfs should be in jail unironically.
I'm so confused cause you guys did the SAME THING 😭😭

I think as a left wing person that Virginia should pull one from the GOP playbook and just ignore their courts and delay any action to change the maps until election season and hit the courts with the “oops well now it’s too late” defense. I’m tired of having to take the high road.

Jailing a whole group of people just because you disagree with them and making false statements about how we're "pedophiles" sounds a lot like fascism

I know. We have politicians who have too much faith in “doing the right thing”. Doing the right thing doesn’t matter if your opponent will stop at nothing to continually fuck you over.

Considering VA’s incredibly moderate-conservative past of which the SCOVA judges are a reminder (I live here), we should be lucky this made the ballot at all

You’re optimistic. I just think they’re okay with what republicans are doing. The financial interests align for them regardless of whether or not the democrats are popular or successful. The dems and GOP want the same thing, functionally. I’m sure they’d *like* to win. But they don’t wanna do the right thing, because the right thing would’ve been to pack the Virginia courts. They didn’t. The right thing would be to ignore this ruling. They didn’t. So they simply must not care.

This is true. Then again yall do have a trifecta. They could really just do what they want and give the SCOVA a big fat middle finger.

Best I got for you is it just doesn’t work like that here. Doing so would probably get SCOTUS involved and we all know how that would end Never mind that this would prob tick off the squishy centrist/indie voters of which this state is chock full

As for the trifecta, the GOP came *very* close to getting one in 2023

At least SCOTUS striking it down gives some precedent for the gerrymandering to stop everywhere. The problem is that it’s a race to the bottom. To actually fix the problem requires an unbelievably strong federal set of laws on gerrymandering. I’d rather it get sent up to the SCOTUS and force their hand on it one way or another.

I understand. Best I got for you is that a ton of political will was spent on this and I doubt they’ll want to spend much more. I don’t really have any other answers for you 😔
