M4A would require a substantial tax increase on the middle class. I still think it would be worth it, but most people think we can fund it by just taxing billionaires . Absolutely not.

If the federal government seized every single asset owned by every billionaire effectively reducing their wealth to zero, the liquidated cash ($8.1 trillion) would only fund Medicare for All for roughly two to two and a half years

The real “cost” of it is the administrative cost. Insurance would still be payed just like before, just to the govt under one single program (which would cover all health costs, instead of various networks with different insurance companies). The insurance is already being payed by americans, so that is not a new cost. The administrative cost is likely less than what we’ve spent in the war in iran so far (directly + indirectly)

Even conservative estimates for the costs are around 30 trillion. If USA implemeted a system roughly equivalent to Englands NHS, when we take England and scale their healthcare system to USA it’s about 40 trillion

In addition, if the federal government completely abolished the U.S. militaty, the redirected savings ($900 billion) would cover less than one-quarter of the annual cost of M4A

Well, that’s why we don’t seize their wealth, we tax it.

Medicare for all is govt *insurance* not just free healthcare out of nowhere, and not a universal hospital nationalization like nhs. The administrative cost would likely pay off within a few years. Spreading the risk over such a large pool with single payer insurance and removing the opaque corporate middleman from the healthcare process is financially a better choice. Single payer national health insurance is a no brainer for any advanced and developed country.
