People underestimate their capacity to be coerced into immorality If secret police ruled the streets and any sort of dissent was physically and existentially unsafe, what else do you expect them to do? Their values don’t necessarily align but we have biological imperative for self-preservation I think criticizing the people who make actual deliberate choices makes more sense then criticizing the powerless who were coerced or duped

did every single German citizen perpetrate violence? Every single one of them? None of them just having to play along to stay alive? None of them doing little acts of resistance when they feasibly could?
