I never really see people defending North Korea although I do see people criticizing the creation of North & what the Citizens went through during that process. The only time I see real defense of the current regime from leftist is when responding to claims like the citizens push trains, or live off of rats the size of dogs
Also, there’s a difference between debunking straight up lies about North Korea and actually caping for the regime. America lies about the DPRK all the time, but that doesn’t mean EVERY negative thing about the DPRK is CIA propaganda. I think that’s where a lot of leftists get fucked up. They see that America clearly lies about North Korea, and then assume every negative aspect of North Korea is just State Department bullshit. There’s nuances there that a lot of people ignore.
I’ve met a few Mao and Stalin defenders, but I’ve never once met an NK defender irl. Don’t forget that these countries, just like the US, engage in mass disinformation campaigns online and use tons of bots. It’s like asking right-wing influencers who bankrolls their owner company (it’s always Russia lmao)
Right, the facts within propaganda can be true. They can also be lies. The most effective propaganda is a mix of both, which is what US narratives on North Korea tend to be. The US will point out the legitimate issues, and then also include some truly over the top bullshit just to nail it in a little more that they’re The Bad Guy Country.
