I think it’s strange we hold countries and places accountable to the same standards we have in 1st world nations and areas. It’s not their fault, these countries could be us if they had the same resources. Doesn’t mean we should keep them down.

 This country(Cuba) literally kills you for criticizing their government. They are not transparent with their media at all. It’s an oppressive authoritarian regime. Trade will only help keep them in power. If they allowed free speech, trade is ok.

We’ve put a boot on their necks and abused their labor, and in turn when they don’t dance the dance we want we make it their moral and cultural failure. We do it to the Deep South, to Southeast Asia, to the Caribbean. As long as they stay poor we have benefit, from giving us a place to send missionaries to have places we can “vacation” and enjoy a higher standard of living than the average native of these areas. “We” as the US, England, China, etc.yes I know China isn’t western, but they doittoo

not to mention that peripheral countries tend to have their resources extracted for pennies on the dollar by core (first world) countries

Use some critical thinking skills. The people in power want to maintain their power. They maintain their power by oppressing their people. If we help them through trade, the government will not help the people but keep stuffing their pockets. If we blockade them, government collapses, and a better government comes in to help people of Cuba.

at the cost of the deaths and disenfranchisement of millions of their citizens, in turn making them our slaves to work for our benefit. If you think we’re doing these things for their own good you are evil lowkey.

We literally have excellent relations with every single Democratic country and no one feels like a slave in England, France, Canada, or any other Democratic country with freedom of speech. It will not be evil it will be liberating. Many Cubans living in the USA want to go back to Cuba but can’t because of political persecution. Slave argument disproven.

you are def okay with their continued disenfranchisement. You’d also know the Cubans living here were upper class Cubans and they want to go back bc they can go back to having slaves to clean their homes. Please educated yourself on Cuba.

That’s not how countries with freedom of speech or free market economies work. Firstly, most Cubans in USA who want to live in Cuba cannot afford servants. Secondly, freedom of speech will allow Cubans to access the internet freely so they can learn skills. These skills will help them in the free market and make their lives better. Currently the government censors the internet. Lastly, the massive influx of educated people into Cuba will improve all sectors of the economy, such as hospitals.

And all that can also happen without us pushing them and manipulating them into engaging in a capitalist economy, they deserve the right to make those decisions, not you or other governments forcing them too.

It literally can’t happen because their government is too corrupt. The people of Cuba live in fear. The government does not respect human rights. Imagine starting your own business, then someone in power wants to take it over. They can make up any crime and kill you. That’s what is happening in Cuba. The government is killing its own civilians who try to be successful.
