
At the same time, the Swiss system also covers a whole lot more than the US system despite the headline prices being similar. For profit health insurance is a big part of the problem here. Switzerland tried that at one point, but reverted within a few years as it significantly increased insurance costs with little to no benefit (iirc prices nearly doubled on average).
The problem is that every choice is expensive and many people are forced to delay healthcare resulting in higher medical expenses down the road and a lower quality of life. We can still keep the same choices, but government subsidies can help lower those premiums and big bills for everyone.
