My politics: govt is not meant to solve societies problems. People should be generous and donate to good causes, we shouldn’t be taxed for those purposes

Govt is 100% meant to solve societal issues. It is for the people. I’m not going to claim that we can be anything other than a hierarchical society, but I still think the decisions should be made to benefit the majority, not just to sustain the hierarchy, should all schools be funded through donation? Should we remove social security, and let that be done through donation, taxes are used for a lot of things, what are you ok with?

fr. the local food bank talking about how they received 5x the amount of donations bc people heard SNAP was gonna be affected. and it’s like, that’s great. but also why are we only doing that in times of potential hardship. could just be fully maintained without gov subsidy if people bothered to give a shit the other 99.9% of the time

they’re too big of an organization to realistically operate like pantries do. they just order pallets of cans and make prefilled boxes to ship out

Ah ok. I was going to say, one of the problems with the donations of food from people is that it costs individuals much more to buy the same amount of food. Food banks have access to bulk discounts and operate at a much larger scale

Think about the dumbest sweetest person you know, if they had an injury that took away their ability to provide labor, do they not have a right to have basic necessities? Is it okay that they become homeless because not enough people donate? Personally I just don’t think something like that is right.
