Okay, why did the vast majority of revolutions occur in underdeveloped nations and not the industrialized Western nations as Marx predicted?

Karl Marx was a genius and socialism works.

Genuine answer: Marx wrote the manifesto before WW1. He had *no way of knowing* how much money developed nations would sink into their militaries and weapons, effectively shutting down the possibility of revolution in the first world

Marx lived in a world where the idea of cops having tanks was unfathomable - because tanks didn’t exist yet.

And why was the revolution not simultaneous, as Marx predicted? Marx never believed Communism would exist in one place and Capitalism in another, but that Capitalism would be overthrown universally at once.

OP, please do a bit more reading up on marxist theory. You do not understand what World Revolution is as a concept. It’s not simultaneous - it arrives when conditions allow, and conditions are not universal

Fair. But what are these conditions? And why has Communism fallen in some places after it was instituted? Revisionism?

OP, I’m gonna be so real with you. I’m a music ed major, not an economics one. While I have some knowledge of the history of revolution, it’s not my main strong suit, and I fear if I made specific claims in regards to that question they’d be unsubstantiated and frivolous

I respect that admission. My theory would be that Marx was mostly wrong. Communism is not the natural endpoint of history, but a specific ideology. There is nothing special or unique about it, and the replace of Capitalism with it is not inevitable. “Late-stage Capitalism” is a myth, because Capitalism, like any other system, doesn’t have a set end point.

Both reasonable positions, especially the end-stage one. I do think there is utility in distinguishing between eras of capitalism, but perhaps “late stage” is a bit too final

capitalism will ruin the earth and that’s why communism, or something we may not even know about yet tbh, is where humanity will ultimately be forced towards. a finite earth cannot support the infinite growth capitalism demands. i don’t even call myself a communist or socialist, but in 70 years, capitalism is going to leave us with no other option unless we make one.

Agreed. I also don’t think he really defines well enough the future stateless, moneyless society. This is the culmination of his worldview, but I don’t really see how it would work. I don’t know how a society functions without a state to enforce law and order. Like, if someone murders someone, do the citizens just have to form a posse? Will there be trials? Can the murderer be put to death immediately once captured, or does he have the right to appeal, and appeal to whom?

The universe is infinite. Infinite growth can theoretically be allowed with infinite space colonization and exponentially improving technology.

we’re centuries away from being able to live in space lol, we do not have time for that.

and no fucking offense, but i don’t want to fuck up our own planet so bad we have to leave. i’d rather take real steps to save it than spend billions terraforming planets we do not know for sure are actually suitable for life. space isn’t a viable option and this comment reads like cope.

Astronauts have been living in space on the ISS continuously for decades. We are launching a spaceship with astronauts to orbit the moon in February 2026, landing on the moon in a few years, and planning for a Lunar space station, which will be a waypoint for the future planned Mars mission.

Space is absolutely a viable solution. We can both have a cared for world and expand across the universe.

check the health of the astronauts that do stay in space for extended periods. bone and muscle loss, increased the risk of cancer, fucks up the immune system, it’s a laundry list because we didn’t evolve to survive in space. we cannot live out there yet, man lol we never will.

we won’t be taking care of earth if we continue on with capitalism like this. look around you lol. what makes you think that once we start sending people to mars that it’ll get better here?

and once again, your argument really, truly does boil down to “we’re gonna fuck up earth but some of us will get to go to space!” that’s fucking bleak and idk how you seem excited about it lol.

Gravity on other planets is much higher than floating in space. And you discount the progress of technology. Cancer deaths have been reduced dramatically over the past few decades. Why wouldn’t be able to figure out how to reduce health problems of people in outer space or on other worlds?

Anonymous replying to -> #2 3w

That’s absolutely not my argument. We should be caring for Earth and shouldn’t “fuck it up”, but we can also spend on space sufficiently to expand humanity. We have enough resources for both. I’m excited for a future humanity across the stars, interconnected and prosperous on all worlds.

we’re not gonna live on other planets lol this is a pipedream for people who hate their planet. why not use that money to, like you said, treat cancer and things like that on earth? advance technology to actually save our planet. why waste money on space that we will NEVER live in?

People were predicting flight was impossible. People didn’t know anything about the atom. People didn’t know about the internet. It will absolutely occur at some point. The question is when and how.

it’ll be a catastrophic death for a couple billionaires taking a joy ride to mars. that’s how we’ll find out it can’t be done. i can’t wait for it either, they’ll deserve it for what they did to our planet!

THE SOUTH FUCKING POLE. and you expect people to WANT to live in space lmfao. you’re just as detached from reality as the billionaires you’re parroting all this outrageous shit from.

Technology will advance enough for a comfortable existence on other worlds, even if it takes decades. Just look at what has happened over the past decade with technology.

no, it’ll never happen and i’m so glad it won’t lol. you can keep repeating it all you want and believing all you want, in 20 years when bezos dies of starvation on mars you’ll realize you listened to the wrong people lol.

anyone who thinks we’re going to live in space and thinks we should devote any amount of effort, money, or resources to living there is a fucking idiot who probably kinda doesn’t give a shit about the state of their own planet. that’s what i’m on about. this whole “we’ll live in space” shit was conjured up by the wealthiest of the wealthy to distract peons like OP from realizing their planet is getting gutted.
