
Okay dude, realistically one of two things are gonna happen: He’s either gonna realize how little power the mayorship actually has and won’t do most of the things he promised, or He’s gonna get his policy through somehow and show everyone for the 54th time why communism is a horrible idea. Nothing is free and you can’t simply force people to pay into the city budget. It’s been tried in other cities, every time their yearly revenue goes down after it’s tried.
That sounds like just an anti-corruption project. People are happy to pay taxes when they know it’s going to benefit the city and provide tangible results, which is hardly the brand of socialism I’m talking about. On the other hand, New York City is a behemoth, incomparable to 20th century Milwaukee. And Mamdani legitimately wants to enact extreme market manipulation in food and housing, not just clean up corruption and fixing sewers. It’s gonna end bad
