For me, I was five years old in 2008 and I remember learning a song in school Barack Obama tell your mama he’s the next president and we did a conga line around the school I kid you not

I remember being a kid visiting Washington DC and seeing a van which had Obama with like scary red eyes and a graphic saying he was the antichrist and that was my first exposure to crazy right wingers and also to the realization that there are people who hate Obama.

i vividly remember that i was in my 5th grade classroom watching his 2009 inauguration while the 3rd grade’s portraits of Obama loomed from across the hall with a ton of great misspellings: “Barck” “Barrack” “Barock” “Obamma”
