Why do Christian’s feel entitled to take away pagan places of worship, like I’m a Hellenic polytheist and so many of the temples in Greece were destroyed and the one that’s standing is now remodeled to be a church

I’m not anti-religious by any means, but I think that most religions have some requirement to respect others’ beliefs and attempt to force them into believing “the right thing”

What?

Because there are less and less Pagans every day and more and more Christians

you’re a couple thousand years too late for Hellenic. But many of the Indian gods like Indra (called Zeus in Greek) and Varuna (called Poseidon in green) are the indo-European gods if ur serious abt it then go worship with them

Are they forcibly seizing these places of worship, or purchasing them and then doing what they wish with the property? Just as I think anyone should be able to buy an old church and turn it into a mosque, I don’t see an issue with people doing what they want with their own property even if it used to be a hellenic temple.

“Paganism” is a truly unusable category because it’s just what Christianity and Islam call all the polytheistic faiths they don’t like. It’s not a useful category, it’s so many different religions

I mean the Pagans didn’t like us much either. That’s why they massacred Christians

Right, and Christians have never massacred anybody

It’s the word for non abrahamic religion and they have free reign to abuse anyone of those religions bc they’re not Christian it’s ok

Pantheistic rituals come from your family does anyone in Greece still follow that religion their ancestors do?

Yes they do it’s still a very active religion in and out of Greece

Yes, religions often persecute other religions in order to maintain their own dominance.

Also paganism is a very broad scope it’s a multitude of religions but also it was thousands of years ago that by still treat us like your enemies

Simple Google search disproves that

It’s smaller yes but it’s still active look up specifically Hellenic polytheism it’s a form of pagenism and it very much exists

Hellenism is a recognized religion by the Greek government

And I fail to see why it’s your business what religion OP practices anyway?

I’m talking about specifically Greek people with a religious legacy. Pantheistic religions were very open with each other and a Mesopotamian traveler for example would recognize Zeus and his own god as the god of the sky and the king. So if you need to worship then the only remaining authentic pantheistic places of worship would be Hindu temples

Well it would be hard for them to worship because none of the ancient temples in Greece are not sites of active worship

Because most were destroyed and as it’s not a major religion here we don’t really have places of worship

They posted abt it and im the one here most similar to them bc im Indian and follow an adjacent religion. I get what it’s like to have ur temples destroyed. If u cant stop it then u can pray at others. I’ve prayed at Japanese shrines to their gods before too

I personally think it’s disrespectful to take what used to be a place of worship until it was destroyed by Christian’s and modern day Christian’s turning them into churches when there used to be so many

There’s some very interesting history with the syncretism of Hindu and Buddhist and Greek faiths in the Greco-Bactrian Kingdom and the Indo-Greek states founded after Alexander the Great

And especially somewhere historical like they can build another church but leave the old temples alone

Building churches over indigenous sacred sites is how Christians and Muslims conquer. In India a lot of churches and mosques were built over the grounds of Hindu temples

Yes I think the Hellenistic and Hindu faiths have an even older connection with the Indo-European gods. But with pantheistic religions the sun god for one is the sun god for all

And I think that’s wrong too if they want more churches they can build new ones

Yes we very much do the same as Norse pagenism, celtic or really any form of it does

And no I’m not trying to be edgy I have my own personal religious beliefs aren’t you the ones who care so much about freedom of religon and not being mocked for being Christian, well maybe you should extend that to others too
