Europe had a huge war that lasted nearly 8 years over if a woman could become the first Holy Roman Empress, in a break from Medieval Frankish law, and she won. (Don’t get too excited, her reign was fairly conservative, even for the time)

Idk if it’s funny or abhorrent… but on this far right “news” source the top comments were “keep women out of politics, there’s a reason they were left out before and it’s not sexism” (it was. Queens? Empresses?) on an article WRITTEN BY A WOMAN

The Margaret Thatcher effect (woman wins against odds but is more conservative than male opponents)

Nah I’m talking before that. In Rome the empresses conducted a lot of the administrative work, especially if the emperor was particularly fond of combat. Many plotted for their own dynasty to take over (Zenobia in palmyra), and many more were so important they had their own currency minted

I have heard of this but for democratic elections though, which is why I think the first female US president will be a Republican. The theory is that sexist voters who would believe a female president would be weak, emotional, or dismissive of men would be convinced to overcome those concerns and vote for a woman if she was very right wing. (A “one of the good ones” situations but for sexists)

I assumed it was a phenomenon around elections. Is it more inherent than that?
