on the amazon part, yeah, it’ll get more dangerous there generally. you have illegal miners (garimpeiros), loggers, and ranchers all vying for the same land that often indigenous/quilombo territory. these guys have *been* a problem but it died back a bit under lula. keep an eye out for indigenous (and other forest peoples) protests, will usually tell you what’s going down politically with the amazon in brazil. the more views and outrage it gets, the more political weight they have

if you want to protect the amazon you must protect the rights of the people who live there
