I’m telling you, so many municipal and state politicians are genuinely good. My former city councilman basically lived in a food bank for years during COVID. The bank only delivered in the city, but our councilman would personally deliver meals to over 6 counties and even across state lines (we live in a big city on a state border) if he heard someone needed food. Some of the counties were nearly a 2 hour drive away

He can’t pay for it. The rich people are leaving and so are the businesses, and no one is coming to replace them.

He still has no way to pay for the $6 billion annual price tag https://www.chalkbeat.org/newyork/2025/11/11/mamdani-universal-child-care-pledge-faces-operational-challenges/

You can try just googling the headline, but it’s basically the same information that you can get on any article about this. It remains unknown whether or not funding will materialize.

This doesn’t disprove anything. All it talks about is that it would need state approval + the governor is willing to work with him

Its not meant to disprove anything. It’s just a statement of fact. As it stands today there is no funding.

Yeah dude, I’m sure all the rich people living in NYC of all places can’t afford a tax hike. They’re going to be living in cardboard boxes. And I’m sure all the businesses are going to move out of one of the largest cities in the world over it too

No business needs to be in the same city as the stock exchange anymore and hasn’t needed to for almost 40 fucking years. Most middle and upper class people do office work that, as we found out during COVID, is easily done remotely. Only a skeleton crew needs to actually be in these businesses at any one time. That means that it’s very easy to move businesses or employees out of New York and feel almost no impact. Ironically, you’re talking like it isn’t already happening, but it is.

Thousands of upper and middle class people have already left New York as well as many businesses. This isn’t even a new thing either- Long Island didn’t want to give good tax breaks to the Amazon east coast HQ so Arlington VA got it instead. Even if Amazon didn’t pay much taxes because of the breaks, it would create hundreds (if not thousands) of high paying jobs plus new residents, and other businesses being able to synergise with it (dry cleaners for suits, janitorial businesses, etc.)

Yes but as I mentioned, will NYC even have enough business and upper class people to pay for it without him having to tax poor people to get it?
