Media Literacy is dead and the reactions I have seen across the internet to this article prove it. Yes, there is a serious problem here but I’ve seen a dozen TikTok’s claim 62 million men looked at these instructions, which is BS for multiple reasons.

1. 62 million visits doesn’t mean 62 million unique people visited the site

2. The instructions were on a telegram of a 1000 people. The 62 million number is to a random porn site that happened to have some of the videos on it. Any porn site that allows random users to upload videos is absolutely cluttered in illegal content, which is why PH stopped letting users upload. Nobody used to say billions of people were learning how to r*pe their spouses when the content was on the much more popular site that is PH though.

3. You can literally just go to the website yourself and disprove this. I don’t know how it’s gotten repeated so many times. There is a serious problem here but rather than address it everyone is set on making it way bigger than it seems to fear monger.

They wouldn't be able to sensationalize it if they said 1000 people instead of 62 million

I’m going to assume most people don’t want to touch sketchy websites (or websites they think are illegal) like this with a 10 ft pole, so idk how many are willing to visit it. Also, people are lazy

You’re severely underreporting on the number of men involved in these groups, despite the linked article overreporting A German investigation a while ago reported on these same groups, around 70k participants though, and snopes picked up the story as well. https://www.snopes.com/news/2025/02/02/women-telegram-rape-channel/

the key thing is it’s not just a single telegram group, but a network of them

“sensationalize”? we’re talking about a network of online groups that are disseminating information on how to rape women and get away with it. With all due respect, get your head out of your ass.

This level of proof could apply to literally anything you wanted it to. It's researched by media organizations because raping women, and getting away with it is a terrible thing, and terrible things get clicks. I'm not denying any of that.

ah I see what you mean, I hadn’t realized your comment was a critique of “click-bait journalism” for lack of a better term lol, that’s on me and I apologize! It’s part of the reason why we barely ever receive truly good news when it happens in the world, because it’s not as profitable as the bad news (in addition to major companies limiting how much hope they inspire)
