Calling conservatives “evil” is an oversimplification that erases any potential useful or insightful conversation into why people align themselves with different values Things are rarely straight “evil,” people have reasons for doing things, even if those reasons are irrational, what if we tried to use those reasons to our advantage rather than dismissing them as inherently evil, it feels like a cop out and a denial of basic human thinking patterns
There’s definitely nuance worth considering here but at the same time is it not generally true that conservatives care less about the well-being of others whom they don’t personally know? I don’t wanna generalize either but Tbf everything I’ve ever seen or experienced says that conservatives generally do not care about suffering if it’s much past their line of sight. That’s a moral failing in my view, they’re just less compassionate people
To a degree, yes. On some level it is understandable, most of us would be fine letting a friend crash on our couch but not some random person, that’s not completely wrong or selfish. However when expanded to national or international policy level thats where it gets harmful because it creates a mindset where people think that essentially only their own well-being matters and the goal of reducing human suffering falls by the wayside. The people who claim to want to be uninvolved with suffering -
People elsewhere aren’t really saying they want to be uninvolved; they’re fine profiting off of far away people but they don’t want to care about the suffering of those people. If you don’t think it’s your duty to care about the suffering of other intelligent beings that’s fine, but you shouldn’t contribute to that suffering or you are a hypocrite. Go live in the woods alone if that’s truly your belief.
