Boomers make algorithms more addictive than casinos and then get mad when we are on our phones 😭 Also notice how as the old people also started getting addicted to facebook and reels, they stopped complaining about young people on their phones as much ☠️

this obviously isn't unique to tech, food alcohol and tobacco industries have been using this strategy for a long time

people just don't notice because for some reason they don't think of tech as inherently addictive in the same nature as food alcohol and tobacco

Damn dude, I appreciate the extent to which you’ve discussed this topic- very insightful. To add on, I feel like from a tech company’s perspective, the point IS to dissuade people from viewing tech as addictive so that it can be rationalized and integrated into every facet of our lives

There's also the point that tech can and does serve some utilitarian value in many cases, and it's easy to negate the downsides or equate that value to necessity in the face of that

But absolutely, its very advantageous to a company to convince people that whatever purpose their tech fulfills is not only something that makes them feel good when it works, but a "necessary evil" when it shows its imperfections. That can legitimately give you life long customers.
