Note: The democratic senator did not start nor really correlate with the great switch a great deal.

The party swap is so blatantly obvious. The staunchest segregationist democrats switched to be republicans and it’s no mystery as to why.

Like yeah the earliest black senators were all republicans and now the modern republicans seek to erase them from history and celebrate the white supremacists who overthrew them

It’s really complicated bc it’s only been completely finished swapping in the 2000s. Even Reagan gave amnesty to millions of undocumented people. Also, some policies we see as insanely harmful and discriminatory today were seen as progressive in the time. Just look at eugenics, both created and dismantled by progressives and used by conservative legislators. Evangelicals wouldn’t support the theory of evolution even if a wiener dog and a wolf were standing right in front of them
