Hi. This is xi.jinping. I accidentally shut my identity off. Oops. The GDR was both communist (in terms of ideology of ruling government) and socialist (in terms of economic structure). These words have fixed meanings. There’s no point in arguing about it.

So it was a socialist state on paper but functionally it was a communist state. I mean the Nazis were a socialist party on paper too but they were functionally fascist, and I don’t see many people calling nazi germany a good example of socialism
