I mean they’re different things, atheists claim that a god doesn’t exist, agnostics say that we can’t really say if one exists or not. Atheism requires a lot of confidence in something that is pretty unknowable, much like religion does

It feels like there aren’t any widely agreed upon definitions. Personally I prefer the interpretation where the two answer different questions: Theism/atheism is about what you believe, and gnosticism/agnosticism is about what you know I myself am an agnostic atheist, meaning I do not believe in any gods, but I don’t claim to know with absolute certainty that a god or gods do not exist. In this framework, I find a lack of gods to be the default, with the burden of proof relying on the theist.
