
There’s actually been some really interesting investigative journalism by Snopes and by journalist Hemant Mehta on this. TLDR the MRFF didn’t do anything to actually verify this claim, and refuses to provide any evidence verifying their source. I was surprised to learn this because I believed it pretty much immediately and generally thought the MRFF was trustworthy, as I’ve seen their work plenty of times before. But apparently there’s a pattern of them spreading unverified whistleblower emails with very similar formats. And no other more prominent military journalist or whistleblower organizations were contacted with this information.
