Prove me wrong: Capping student loans is a good thing. Colleges/universities have been raising prices like crazy knowing that the government can/will in indirectly foot the bill. Cutting loans will force universities to lower tuition to fill spots.

I think universities will keep the high tuition because they know people will take out private loans to pay for it. The government getting involved is why the cost of college is so high, but the government suddenly dipping out isn’t going to drop the price. Prices don’t drop. They’ll just rise slower

capping federal student loans just means that people will be forced to take out more private loans, instead of federal loans. It’s just taking money that used to be dealt with inside the government and forking it over to the private sector (which is WAY more predatory to borrowers). all this is going to do is fuck over more people. congrats. even more of gen z and gen alpha will never be able to afford to own a home because of this. hope you are happy.

tuition used to be exceedingly cheap when colleges got more federal funding. now government funds for day-to-day operations for colleges is pretty much gone. and now tuition has skyrocketed enough that many students graduate with debt that rivals a mortgage
