It’s crazy that Mamdani and admin won’t have to run damage control on this because they have an army of terminally online leftist who actively don’t care and will defend him regardless of anything that happens

Generally in politics it’s just always better to ignore it, the world moves too fast and it will be old news within weeks. Saying something about it just brings more attention to it for people who probably haven’t seen/heard about it yet.

Or maybe because crass comments the mayor’s wife made when she was 15 just aren’t relevant to anything?

Or even just clarify “yeah I was 16 and didn’t live in a western country so I wasn’t aware of the impact it holds”

because it’s a made up issue, it’s literally fucking irrelevant, a manufactured controversy dredged up because they couldn’t find anything worse on him

It happened, so idk how it’s “made up”

Because it’s not a real controversy? It’s entirely manufactured outrage being propped up by the right wing media, who’ve been desperately looking for anything.

So just address it and put it to rest 😭 don’t let them keep talking about it

Addressing it brings infinitely more attention to it. There’s no point in addressing mudslinging bs like this. Especially if Zohran himself were to apologize, because an apology is an admission of wrongdoing and he didn’t do anything wrong, seeing as it’s a tweet from nearly a decade before they even met.

She should address it and apologize. She did do something wrong.

Ok but why shouldn’t she have to apologize

Isn’t this more about morality and ethics than politics? Otherwise she and her husband are no different than any other politician

I think you might need to have this conversation with millions of hispanic people in this country… like Im sorry but someone using the n word as a term of endearment over a decade ago is so fucking irrelevant given what is going on. Who was harmed by her actions?

It’s not my place to have that discussion with them, but I think that discussion does need to happen too. Most of them are not public figures and aren’t held to the same standard

I’m just wondering why she’s being held to a different standard than anyone else. The potential for allowing behavior from some and not others is a potential harm to society

The different standard is literally what you’re holding her to…

If she was anyone else she would’ve likely been fired from her job, cancelled online, and made to apologize. That’s the standard for most people. Why not her

She’s not a public figure
