“But we can’t even tax the rich because—“
CHANGE THE TAX CODE.
… CHANGE THE TAX CODE.
All laws can be changed. It happens literally all the time. Yes, you can tax the rich. THEY JUST DON’T WANT TO.
I’m curious, what is the reason they give for saying we can’t tax the rich?

Taxation rules for different kinds of assets, unrealized gains aren’t taxable (HUGE controversial thing), and general substantive loopholes and enforcement loopholes

Are they saying “we can’t do that” as in “we shouldn’t”? Or that we literally are not able to?

The people that don’t want to be taxed would rather spend their money lobbying to keep taxes low and to maintain tax loopholes

They are saying as the law stands right now, it is very difficult to tax the rich because their money is sitting in unrealized gains

Yeah, I’m actually not sure how we’d tax unrealized gains though, because they’re always changing
