What would it take for you to decide voting dem or rep is useless? If the next dem president started a war with China? Or would you find a reason why they’re still the lesser evil? Purely hypothetically, what would the Dems have to do?

There's nothing that will convince most people. They are trained to only care about elections. And they like it, because it's a system that tells them the can get involved by getting off their couch just once a year to go check a ballot and put on a sticker that says "I voted, I did my part"

They’d have to create as much needless suffering as the Republican Party does. Bad as they are they’d need to do quite a lot to catch up

if they cared about us, they would’ve done something by now. As a trans person, I am sick and tired of being lied to by these greedy assholes who don’t want anything except power. Believing a politician cares about you no matter what side is like believing a stripper loves you. Both sides are bought out. We don’t live in a democracy, we live in a plutocracy.

They don’t care about you and yet they are less bad, both are true

You can’t keep acting like just because they are less bad that they deserve any of your attention. That’s how they keep you on their leash.

What is gained by abstaining? For all the folks who voted third party and got trump elected, what did we gain? Have democrats moved leftwards?

Third party is NOT abstaining lol and political abstinence was never anyone’s position anyway.

I mean in practice they’re the same, at least in terms of election outcomes. Although I get that a third party vote is a form of protest. I just don’t get the point. The Democratic Party knows their positions are unpopular and don’t care, 3rd party votes won’t change that because everyone knows they’ll never challenge the 2 dominant parties

Yeah so that’s not what I was saying. The oldest form of protest very much is not the 3rd party vote. Voting for a system is the exact opposite of protesting the system. Just like paying the government to grant permission to publicly scream about their corruption and demand they change, is not protest. There’s certain cognitive dissonance that ig most people just don’t notice
