checks and balances require enforcement to be effective. the republican party has spent the past half century - functionally, since Roe v. Wade - working to intentionally capture every check and balance and fill them with More Republicans. In 2016, they succeeded. Trump was elected and flipped the hardest check to capture - the Supreme Court. And now? There’s nobody left to enforce. The ENTIRE republican party is complicit.
