they’re mostly using missiles, drones, and mines actually. some speedboats. They’ve got some submarines too. They’re not just… firing off the side of a cliff or something. also the thing is they don’t have to hit every ship. All they have to do is hit enough that nobody wants to sail through. Whoever is running the ship (and also whoever owns the ship, and whoever insures the ship) won’t want to take the chance.

I imagine cargo ships are owned by groups of investors to spread the risk, but even then the cargo is so valuable it can be devastating financial loss for one to be sunk or damaged

The other issue is that the owners and operators are NOT the same people usually So, both of them are unwilling to risk it since that means like issues for both of them if the ship is damaged
